The September House

THE CURE FOR BURNOUT IS WORSE THAN THE DISEASE.To the exhausted elite of corporate America, Blackwood Estate is the ultimate sanctuary. Hidden on a storm-lashed island off the coast of Maine, the off-grid retreat promises the impossible: a revolutionary thirty-day reset engineered by visionary neuroscientist Dr. Arthur Sterling. High-powered executives arrive hollowed out by ruthless eighty-hour workweeks; they return to the boardroom a month later rested, razor-sharp, and completely unshakeable. They call it a miracle cure.Nora Vance calls it a death sentence. When Nora's mentor and corporate vice president, David Miller, dies by suicide just months after completing the retreat, he leaves behind no note-only an encrypted warning scribbled in frantic handwriting: Do not let them fix you. Stepping directly into his empty chair, Nora accepts the firm's invitation to the September House, determined to uncover the truth behind David's sudden unraveling.Behind the compound's soundproof glass walls and locked residential pods, Nora discovers a chilling reality. The retreat is no wellness clinic. The executives who fail their daily psychological evaluations don't get sent home-they vanish into the subterranean wing, only to emerge days later eerily compliant, stripped of their anxiety, and emptied of their humanity. As the month ticks away and the daily tests tighten around her, Nora realizes David didn't break under the pressure of the corporate ladder. He died trying to keep his mind his own. Trapped on an island with no way out, Nora must outsmart a system designed to rewrite human consciousness-or risk losing herself forever.Perfect for readers of Ruth Ware, Lucy Foley, and high-concept psychological thrillers, The September House is a pulse-pounding, claustrophobic exploration of ambition, corporate mind games, and the terrifying cost of perfection.
