Sweet Dreams

In Sweet Dreams, Emily White draws readers into a delicate world where longing, memory, and desire unfold like luminous manga panels under the soft glow of city lights. Her illustrated stories blend tenderness and sensual curiosity, revealing how the smallest encounters can alter the quiet rhythm of a life. The title story follows Plácido, an elegant man nearing fifty who ventures one evening into a discreet bar hidden behind Madrid's restless streets. Around his neck he wears the only thing he inherited from his father: a silk scarf saved for special moments. Beneath dim lamps and curious glances, nerves melt into fascination when a stranger with warm hazel eyes leans closer and murmurs, with a half-smile, "Tonic? Your mother was right-it's terrible for the stomach." Their hands meet across the counter, lingering a little longer than necessary. In Emily White's illustrated universe, every look becomes a story, every gesture a spark-because sometimes a single night redraws the entire map of the heart.
