In a musical world so radicaly changed since the turn of the millennium, he represents one of the last great maestros of the old school-an interpreter of peerless authority, celebrated above all for his brilliant readings of Verdi and Mozart. For more than twenty years, Berlin-based author and journalist Kirsten Liese has followed Muti's stellar career. In this volume, her vivid accounts of opera performances, concerts, and personal encounters with the maestro are further illuminated through interviews with illustrious singers and musicians who have performed under his baton. Their recollections provide an intimate portrait of the maestro at work and reveal the artistic principles that have long shaped his career.Written to celebrate Muti's eighty-fifth birthday, Liese's engaging tribute focuses in depth on his later years as he devoted himself to nurturing young talent and supporting social initiatives through music. This book offers resounding proof of Muti's stature as The Maestro.
