Desire At Henley

In the tradition of Hollinghurst, Baldwin and Bret Easton EllisOne weekend. Four men. A thousand unwritten rules. And an Audi at the bottom of a swimming pool.Brian is a man of appearances. As a professional fundraiser in London, he knows how to navigate the social codes of the elite: the right handshake, the right register, the right distance between his knee and a donor's under the table. His private life is just as carefully managed: a stable, intimate throuple with Finn and Aly, two competitive rowers who represent everything Brian desires. But at the Henley Royal Regatta, the champagne is cold, the sun is unforgiving, and the arrival of Archie changes everything.Archie is a groundsman and a scholar on a country estate in South Oxfordshire. He doesn't care about passing or status. His quiet certainty creates a friction Brian didn't see coming, challenging the easy rhythms of his relationship and forcing him to confront the gap between the life he shows the world and the desires he keeps hidden. What follows is a summer of reckonings: a throuple that has to find its honest ending, a new relationship that has to find its honest beginning, a car that has to be extracted from a pool, a front door that has to be explained, and a forgotten poetry book that turns out to have been selling quietly for years. From the boathouses of Henley to the pubs of Fulham, from a hedge maze in Oxfordshire to a regatta on the Isis, four men and the people around them learn that love is less about getting it right and more about surviving what happens when you get it spectacularly wrong. This combined edition brings together the complete Henley arc in a single volume: the regatta weekend, its chaotic aftermath, and the quiet, hard-won peace that follows. It is frank about desire, tender about love, frequently funny about champagne, and above all a story about the courage it takes to be truly seen. For fans of Alan Hollinghurst, Evelyn Waugh, and unconventional love stories told with precision, warmth and a filthy sense of humour.-A commitment to Human Authorship: the illustrations are hand-drawn in coloured pencil and Japanese sumi ink, and the writing is entirely human, with no generative tools involved at any stage. All of my recent titles are published with documented provenance, keystroke records among it, giving each book a verifiable authorship history at a moment when that has become worth stating plainly.
