In one way or another, these communities have contributed on an ongoing basis\nto the creation of alternative learning environments in art, architecture, and design. Katja Klaus\nat the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation invited the authors of this new issue to explore the question\nof how pedagogical reform attempts shaped past ideas of education and community. Some of\nthese attempts continue to develop today in various pedagogical approaches and schools.
