Ghost Ships of the Baltic Sea

Dive down to the depths of Baltic and explore its uniquely preserved shipwrecks, frozen in time.

Shipwreck diving is like swimming in a frozen moment in history, and the Baltic sea offers the best diving in the world. It contains close to 100,000 wrecks from every era - many of them intact and undisturbed. The cold water and the historic lack of shipworms has preserved the ships better than anywhere else in the world, meaning the Baltic Sea provides an enthralling treasure chest for divers. There are warships from the 17th century, magnificent wooden ships from the 18th century, cargo ships from the 19th century and warships from the Second World War.

This book is the result of 12 years' work, and about 3,000 dives at depths of up to 110m. With page after page of beautifully and skillfully lit photography, the authors bring us with with them down to the depths, and give us all the opportunity to visit these perfectly preserved wrecks. Offering a window into bygone eras with a spooky mixture of serene beauty and haunting reminders of a brutal drama, these wrecks are like time capsules, and often feel as though the crews have only just left.

This beautiful and haunting book reconnects us with our feelings about the sea, the ships, and those who travelled on them.
